Meet revafisheye

Meet revafisheye, the inspiration for my InterWeb alter ego. In the summer of 1994, I was working as an actor and musical director for an outdoor drama company in NC. My then boyfriend was playing the Pharoah in Joseph...Dreamcoat and liked to keep his (Elvis) wig in my trailer "so no one would mess with it" (I swear he is straight). One night, we decided the styrofoam wigstand needed a face.
I painted a blue and orange fish over her right eye, and passed her to Stephen. He did the other eye and handed her back. With tempera paint and a Sharpie, we took turns embellshing her with symbols meaningful to us at the time - yin and yang, an ankh, peace sign, sun and moon, comedy and tragedy - the standard icons of early 90s pot-smoking-hippie-actor kids. Lastly, I covered the remaining space with a Keith Haringesque continuous squiggly black line.
Jen, our trailermate and company costume designer, named her Reva and we added the obvious Fisheye to give her a superior one-name moniker; revafisheye became the mascot of our white-trash domicile. At the end of the summer, she came home with me, and we have since travelled the country, resting at last, here in NYC.
revafisheye reminds me that art can be created from anything; and if you create with love, it will be beautiful.
